Is New Jersey facing a perfect storm of challenges to its water supply?

It’s tempting to think so, in light of the state’s declaration last week of a drought watch in response to recent hot, dry weather; a string of boil-water advisories for homeowners; a major water-main break in Newark, and the latest reminder that some parts of the state still harbor industrial pollutants years after they were officially banned.

The incidents, industry experts say, are just the latest examples of underlying conditions that will continue to challenge public and private water suppliers who are trying to ensure an uninterrupted supply of clean water to residents as well as industry and commerce.
